The Lagos State Police Command has summoned four policemen accused of extorting N1 million from youth corps members.

Benjamin Hundeyin, in a post on X said the four policemen involved in the alleged extortion and kidnapping of three National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members in Surulere had been summoned for trial.

Hundeyin confirmed that the trial of the policemen has commenced and urged the complainants to visit the Complaint Response Unit at the State Headquarters to testify against the officers involved.

The incident, brought to light by activist Olúyẹmí Fásípè, involved the alleged extortion of N1 million from the corps members.

Fásípè claimed that the officers, armed and in uniform, had kidnapped the NYSC members and taken them to the Kafaru Oluwole Tinubu House at Area C Police Command, Surulere, where they were coerced into paying the hefty sum.

“Their offence was simply being in the wrong place at the wrong time,” Fásípè added in his initial post, which sparked widespread outrage on social media.

As the trial begins, the Lagos State Police Command has vowed to ensure justice and called on the victims to provide necessary evidence and statements to aid the investigation.
