Four security personnel, including a soldier, a mobile police officer and two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force, have been killed in a Boko Haram attack on farmers at Dalori Gari community, about 12 kilometres from Maiduguri, the Borno State capital.

Naijaonpoint reports that the incident occurred on Monday morning while troops were providing cover for farmers heading to their farmlands.

According to community and security sources, the attackers, suspected to be Boko Haram terrorists, stormed the area on motorcycles before trekking some distance to intercept the farmers.

“They opened fire immediately after encountering the farmers escorted by the security personnel, killing four of them on the spot,” one of the sources told Channels TV.

Sources further revealed that the insurgents abducted an unconfirmed number of farmers, including women and young girls, during the attack.

Although there has been no official statement on the number of casualties, it was gathered that some farmers sustained injuries while fleeing, which led to their capture by the terrorists.

Confirming the development, the Borno State Police Public Relations Officer, Kenneth Daso, said the slain mobile police officer and the soldier were attached to the Northeast Joint Taskforce, Operation Hadin Kai.

“As such, I cannot comment further on the incident,” Daso stated.
