Fresh Scare In Lagos As Two-Storey Building Collapses On Residents

Lagos Building Collapse

Six persons, including one trapped under debris, were reportedly rescued on Wednesday evening after a two-storey building collapsed on Modupeola Street, Mangoro, in the Alimosho Local Government Area of Lagos State.

Naijaonpoint understands that the incident, which happened around 6 p.m., comes barely two weeks after four people lost their lives in Ebute Meta when a three-storey structure gave way.

The Lagos State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed the latest incident in a statement posted on his Instagram handle.

“A two-storey building has collapsed at 4, Modupeola Street, Mangoro bus stop, Alimosho, Lagos State. The cause of the incident, which occurred around 6 p.m., was not immediately known. Government officials have launched a probe into the incident,” Omotoso said.

He explained that operatives of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) and other first responders arrived promptly and were able to pull out six victims alive.

“The LASEMA and other first responders got to the scene in good time and rescued a trapped victim and five others from the rubble,” Omotoso noted.

According to the commissioner, five of the rescued victims were immediately taken to a nearby private hospital for treatment.

The trapped victim, who sustained a fracture and multiple bruises, was moved by the Lagos State Ambulance Service to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) Surgical Emergency Unit.

“He arrived at the hospital in a stable condition and was immediately admitted for further treatment. The 44-year-old patient lives at 10, Olabode Street, Alimosho,” Omotoso added.

Naijaonpoint reports that the collapse adds to the growing list of structural failures in Lagos, with residents renewing calls for stricter enforcement of building regulations.

In July, four people narrowly escaped death when another three-storey building caved in on Adeniji-Adele Road, Isale Eko.
