The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Malam Shehu Mohammed, has charged newly promoted senior officers to renew their commitment to duty by working tirelessly to reduce traffic crashes and uphold the Corps’ lifesaving mandate.
Mohammed gave the charge on Thursday in Abuja during the decoration ceremony of senior officers at the FRSC headquarters.
He, however, congratulated the newly promoted officers and challenged them to maintain high levels of dedication and loyalty to the FRSC’s mission.
He reminded the officers that the Corps’ ultimate goal was to become the best road safety organisation in the world, with a central focus on reducing traffic crashes and saving lives.
“We are here to congratulate them, appreciate them, and to challenge them for more hard work, more commitment, and more directiveness to FRSC.
“The last thing I want to do is to reduce traffic crashes to save lives. Whatever we can do to do that is our basic mandate, our goal, and our objective,” he said.
The FRSC Corps Marshal warned that anything short of this would amount to a failure to meet the Corps’ core responsibilities.
“I challenge you to be more committed and focused to make sure we achieve that mandate, reduce crashes, fatalities, and injuries and make life better for all Nigerians,” he added.
Mohammed also expressed appreciation to Hon. Olaide Mohammed, member of the House of Representatives, for his presence and unwavering support for the FRSC.
In his remarks, Rep. Olaide Mohammed, the representative of National Assembly described himself as a lifelong ambassador of the FRSC.
Mohammed pledged continued support for its reforms at the national assembly.
He noted that he was the first half-subscribed member of the national assembly to openly align with the Corps.
He, however, expressed optimism that more retired FRSC officers would secure legislative positions in the near future.
“I’m sure in the next election, we’ll have more than two or three. We are already discussing,” he added.
The lawmaker commended the leadership of the national assembly under the Speaker, Abbas Tajudeen, for prioritising road safety and pledged continued legislative support, including the recently passed bill on road safety reforms.
Mohammed also urged them to reflect on the legacy they would leave behind in the Corps, reminding them of the life-critical nature of their work
“God has given you what you want, you need to put in more. Promotion goes with responsibility and hard work.
“Road safety is different from other organisations because we are currently working with life. Any mistake you are making here, you are playing with people’s lives,” he said.
Speaking on behalf of the promoted senior officer, Mr Adewale Ameen, commended the FRSC for providing a level of playing ground for all qualified candidates during the promotion examination.
Ameen however, pledged that the officers would redouble their efforts in taking the Corps to the highest level.
“We will remain focused, committed, and professional in the discharge of our duties in order to build a safer motoring environment for all Nigerians.”
