Former Governor of Rivers State, Peter Odili, has claimed that Governor Siminalayi Fubara prevented a man from turning the state into a private estate.

Naijaonpoint reports that in a statement issued on Saturday, the chief press secretary to Fubara, Nelson Chukwudi, quoted Odili speaking at an event on Friday in Port Harcourt, the state capital.

The Odili family organised the event to honour the Rivers governor.

Recall that Fubara and his successor cum Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, have been locked in a supremacy battle since December 2023.

Odili, who governed the state from 1999 to 2007, commended Fubara for his fortitude and sterling leadership qualities despite the crisis in the state.

The statement added, “Odili explained that it is now over 12 months, since the 25th October 2023, when a fierce existential fight, though unnecessary, was waged against Governor Fubara over the soul of Rivers State.

“He (Odili) said that with assuring fortitude, Governor Fubara confronted the challenge, prevented the quest by one man to capture the State as a private estate, emancipated Rivers people, steadied governance and made civil servants and Rivers people happier as it used to be until he left office in 2007.”

Also speaking, Odili’s wife and former judge of the supreme court, Mary, pledged the continuous support of her family to the success of Fubara’s administration.
