Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has expressed his dissatisfaction with the slow progress and poor quality of work on the 14.5Km Ndele/Omofo/Egamini/Agba-Ndele Road project, located off the East–West Road in Emohua Local Government Area of the state.

Fubara made these remarks during a site inspection of the project on Tuesday, noting that the contractor, Messrs Stream Co. & Equipment Limited, had failed to meet the expected standards for both the pace and quality of work.

The governor, who was visibly frustrated with the state of the road, declared that his administration would not condone mediocrity or allow public funds to be misused on underperforming projects.

“I can say here already that the contractor handling the road from the bridge to the East–West Road is not doing a good job. I’m not happy about it,” Fubara said.

“When I get back, there will be a need to review that contract because I’m not impressed. They don’t have the capacity, and we need capacity because we must have value for whatever money we’re spending.”

The governor’s comments were captured in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi.

While expressing dissatisfaction with the Ndele-Omofo Road project, Fubara praised Setraco Nigeria Limited for the high standard and impressive progress on the 240-meter Agba-Ndele/Abua Bridge, which is also part of the broader project.

“I’m really impressed with what I’ve seen on the bridge. I’m very sure that before the end of January, it might be completely ready for us to walk through and even drive across,” Fubara said.

The governor emphasised that the completion of the bridge will significantly enhance connectivity between communities in Abua/Odual, Ahoada-East, and Emohua Local Government Areas, offering a crucial alternative route to the East–West Road and reducing travel time for locals.

Fubara noted that the Agba-Ndele/Abua Bridge, once completed, will serve as an important economic corridor for farmers, traders, and other businesses in the region.

He stressed that the bridge would open new economic opportunities for the rural communities, particularly those involved in agriculture, by easing the transportation of goods to urban markets.

“Moving goods to the city won’t be a problem anymore,” Fubara added, highlighting how the bridge would boost commerce and enhance livelihoods in the area.

The governor reiterated that his administration is dedicated to improving rural connectivity as part of his broader development plan for Rivers State.

He emphasised that infrastructure investments such as the Agba-Ndele/Abua Bridge align with his vision of fostering social cohesion, promoting economic growth, and ensuring balanced development across the state.

“Our vision is to connect the entire Rivers State together, especially communities that have challenges of access. The bridge here connects Abua/Odual and Ahoada-East to Emohua and Port Harcourt. It will ease movement, promote trade, and boost our economy because agriculture is strong on this side,” Fubara stated.

The governor also addressed the current deplorable state of the Abua/Ahoada Road, pledging that the project will be included in the 2026 state budget.

He emphasised that his administration remains committed to delivering projects that directly benefit the people, and plans are in place to tackle the road’s condition in the coming years.

Fubara concluded by reaffirming that his administration will continue to execute projects across multiple local government areas to ensure balanced development and inclusivity.

“I’m confident that this bridge will serve as a key part of the economic transformation for the region and will provide better access to essential services and markets,” he said.

The governor’s inspection of the Ndele-Omofo Road and Agba-Ndele/Abua Bridge is part of his broader push to improve infrastructure and address the needs of Rivers State’s rural communities.

In a related project, Fubara expressed satisfaction with the ongoing Trans-Kalabari Road project, reporting that about 75% of the critical piling work has been completed, a major milestone for the state’s infrastructure development plans.
