A former Caretaker Committee Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Rivers State, Robinson Ewor, has raised concerns over the absence of an appropriate budget for the state in the 2026 fiscal year.
Naijaonpoint reports that Ewor voiced his worries during a “thank you” visit to the Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday.
Speaking on the issue, Ewor pointed out that Governor Siminalayi Fubara had yet to present the 2026 budget to the State Assembly for appropriation. He stressed that any spending of public funds without an approved budget is illegal.
Ewor said, “The governor cannot effectively administer the state without the necessary synergy between the executive and legislative arms of government. The three arms of government must work together to deliver the dividends of democracy for the people of Rivers State.”
Although the state’s Executive Council had approved a ₦1.85 trillion budget for the 2026 fiscal year on January 2, 2026, it has not yet been submitted to the State Assembly for appropriation, raising concerns about the legality of any government expenditure at this stage.
Earlier, the Chairman of Ahoada East Local Government Council, Solomon Ochoma, commended Wike for his commitment to grassroots engagement, which he said has fostered inclusive governance and development.
Ochoma emphasised that the minister’s visit was a reflection of decisive action, institutional strength, and a commitment to strengthening unity in the region. “This visit will bolster our resolve to stay united and work for the prosperity of our Local Government and the state,” he added.
Women In Ahoada East Show Gratitude To Wike
The Member representing Ahoada East I in the State Assembly, Queen William, expressed gratitude to Wike for his continuous efforts in empowering women throughout his tenure as governor.
“The women of Ahoada East will continue to work with you and follow you wherever you go,” William stated, acknowledging Wike’s support for women’s inclusion in governance.
In his remarks, Wike explained that the purpose of his visit was to thank the people of Ahoada East for their support in electing President Bola Tinubu in 2023 and to further mobilise them for the 2027 elections.
He thanked the people for acknowledging the numerous development projects undertaken in the region and the state during his tenure as governor. According to Wike, he oversaw significant road projects and connected various communities across the state.
He also claimed to have created 10,000 jobs for youth through projects, but alleged that his successor halted these initiatives, discontinuing many of the development programs he had established.
In his parting words, Wike expressed frustration with Governor Fubara, calling him a bad child with no gratitude for abandoning the projects and programs he had initiated. He urged the people of Rivers State to continue supporting progressive minds to drive the state’s continued development.
Wike’s comments come at a time of heightened political tension in Rivers State, as Governor Fubara and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) face mounting pressure from Wike’s faction.
