Fuel Tanker Explosion Sparks Traffic Chaos On Epe-Ijebu Ode Expressway

A fuel tanker explosion near the Old Toll Gate in Mojoda Community, Epe Local Government Area of Lagos State, caused significant disruption on the Epe-Ijebu Ode Expressway on Wednesday.

Naijaonpoint gathered that the incident occurred around 4 p.m. when the tanker, reportedly transporting fuel out of Lagos, burst into flames.

Emergency reports revealed that the tanker driver and one other occupant narrowly escaped before the explosion engulfed the vehicle.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as chaotic, with plumes of smoke visible from a distance. Motorists were forced to abandon the route, causing heavy traffic congestion along the expressway as vehicles diverted to alternative roads.

The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service confirmed the explosion, with its personnel promptly deployed to the site to contain the inferno and prevent further damage.

Margaret Adeseye, Director of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, provided updates on the situation.

She said, “The Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service is currently battling a fuel tanker inferno on the Epe-Ijebu Ode Expressway, near the Old Toll Gate, Mojoda, Epe, Lagos State.

“There are no vulnerable individuals within the immediate scene except for the tanker occupant, as efforts are ongoing to bring the situation under control.”

The incident caused significant traffic buildup along the busy expressway, with authorities urging motorists to exercise caution and adhere to safety instructions.
