Full List: Nine Agreements Signed By Nigeria And Turkey

Nigeria and Turkey on Tuesday signed nine bilateral agreements aimed at strengthening diplomatic, economic and strategic cooperation between both countries, as President Bola Ahmed Tinubu continues his state visit to the Middle Eastern nation.

Naijaonpoint reports that President Tinubu signed the agreements alongside Turkish President, Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, and ministers from both countries after a bilateral meeting in Ankara.

Tinubu’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Olusegun Dada, confirmed that the agreements were formally exchanged following the meeting.

The agreements cover a wide range of sectors, including defence, trade, education, diaspora affairs and social development.

They include agreement on cooperation in the field of diaspora policy; agreement on defence cooperation; a joint declaration establishing the economy and trade joint committee (JETCO); agreement in the field of halal quality infrastructure; and cooperation in the field of higher education.

Others are cooperation in the field of media and communication; cooperation in the field of education; cooperation between Turkey’s ministry of foreign affairs and diplomacy academy, and Nigeria’s foreign ministry and foreign affairs academy; and cooperation between Turkey’s ministry of social services and Nigeria’s ministry of women affairs and social development.

According to Turkish media reports, the media and communication agreement is designed to facilitate the exchange of information, expertise and best practices between both countries.

The agreement also provides for the organisation of joint seminars, workshops, training programmes and reciprocal visits for officials and experts in the broadcasting and communication sectors. It will be valid for an initial period of three years.

Speaking at a joint press conference with President Tinubu, President Erdoğan said Turkey is committed to achieving a $5bn trade volume target with Nigeria.

He disclosed that discussions toward expanding trade and economic cooperation between the two countries had already commenced.

Erdoğan described Nigeria as a key partner for Turkey in Africa, while reaffirming Ankara’s commitment to deepening engagement across critical sectors.
