Funk Flex stirred major conversation this week after sharing a surprising update about his future at Hot 97. The longtime DJ revealed he recently filled in for the morning slot after Ebro in the Morning ended, and the listener reaction may have quickly turned his short run into something much bigger.

“H-O-T 97 MORNING SHOW UPDATE! WE RECEIVED A GREAT RESPONSE ON ME FILLING IN 6AM THIS WEEK!” Flex wrote on X, before dropping an unexpected bombshell. “I ACCEPTED THE MORNING SHOW POSITION FOR 2029!”

Flex also confirmed that when the time comes, he will step away from his iconic 5 p.m. drive time show, a move that would close one of the longest-running chapters in New York radio. He hinted that the station is already building toward the future, teasing that the 2026 Hot 97 morning lineup is already two-thirds complete. “MORE DETAILS ON THE WAY,” he added.

Meanwhile, Ebro Darden addressed the end of his show with reflection and gratitude. “Nothing lasts forever, and every show has its season,” Ebro said. “I am proud of what we built and thankful for the audience that showed up for us every morning.” He added, “This is not an ending for me, it is a transition.”
