Victor Osimhen is preparing for a major challenge on Saturday as Galatasaray take on Beşiktaş in the Istanbul derby, Footynaija.com reports.

The Super Eagles striker will be aiming to move past Nigeria’s 1-1 draw against Zimbabwe and deliver a strong performance in a match that could shape Galatasaray’s title race.

Nigeria’s draw against Zimbabwe in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers left many questions about the Super Eagles’ performances.

Osimhen, returning from injury, was expected to make a difference but his three goals in the two fixtures could not prevent the setback. The result means Nigeria remain fifth in Group C, struggling to find consistency under new coach Eric Chelle.

With that frustration behind him, Osimhen will now turn his focus to Galatasaray’s title push.

The Nigerian forward has scored 20 goals and four assists in 22 matches since joining the club on loan from Napoli, quickly becoming a fan favourite. His goals have been vital in keeping Galatasaray at the top of the Süper Lig, and Saturday’s clash against Beşiktaş is another major test of his influence.

Galatasaray are locked in a fierce title battle, having accumulated 71 points after 27 matches and, with just a few rounds left, every point matters, and the pressure is on the Nigerian star to deliver.

Beşiktaş, meanwhile, are fourth in the league with 44 points from 26 games. While they are not exactly in the title race, they will be determined to disrupt their rivals.

The atmosphere at Beşiktaş’s stadium promises to be intense, and Osimhen will need to rise to the occasion. He has proved himself in high-pressure matches throughout his career, but this match will be another moment where Galatasaray fans expect him to lead the charge.

Supporters have made it clear they want the club to sign Osimhen permanently, with campaigns already underway to fund his transfer. However, a permanent deal remains uncertain, especially with clubs like Manchester United scouting him.

A strong performance in this derby could strengthen his case to stay in Turkey, while also reminding European giants of his quality.
