Galaxy Buds 2 Pro gets Auto Switch for laptops with new udpate

Last month, Samsung announced that its Galaxy Buds lineup of TWS earbuds will soon receive an update with new features for enhanced audio quality and deeper integration with the Galaxy ecosystem. The promised update is now rolling out to the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro. It brings Auto Switch support for laptops and Auracast stability improvements.

Samsung’s Galaxy Buds support auto switching of connection between phones and TVs depending on the need. For example, if you are watching something on your Samsung TV with your Galaxy Buds and receive a call on your phone, the Buds with automatically switch the connection to the phone. The connection will switch back to the TV when the call ends.

Samsung is now adding Galaxy Book laptops to the mix. With the latest update, your Galaxy Buds 2 Pro will automatically switch the connection between your paired laptop, phone, or TV as per the need. The company says your Galaxy Book must support Samsung Settings v6.0.0 or later for Auto Switch to work. Auto Switch also works with Galaxy Watches.

The official release notes for the latest update, which comes with the firmware build number R510XXUOAXB4 and weighs 6MB, also mention stability and reliability for Auracast. “An Auracast and device operation-related stabilization code has been applied,” Samsung states. This likely means the company has improved Auracast support for TVs introduced last year.

Auracast transforms your Samsung TV into a shared radio station that can be broadcast across multiple connected Galaxy Buds. Samsung last month said a new update for its earbuds will bring this function to Galaxy phones and tablets, including the Galaxy S24 and Galaxy Tab S9 series. However, the latest update for the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro doesn’t seem to add it.

Samsung might be laying the foundation before expanding Auracast to its mobile devices. Other promised features, such as 360 Audio for TVs and optimized AI Interpreter for earbuds, are also missing, at least from the changelog. The company may soon push another update to the Galaxy Buds 2 Pro with these features. Other Galaxy Buds models may also get this update in the coming weeks.

Check for an update from the Galaxy Wearable app

Samsung lets you manually check for new firmware updates for your wearable devices from the Galaxy Wearable app on a connected smartphone. Open the app, select the device, and head to the Settings section to check for updates. If you don’t see any update for your Galaxy Buds 2 Pro today, wait a few days and check again. You may also get a notification when the update is available for you.
