The Galaxy Z Flip 6 is unlikely to use an outdated chipset. A newly published benchmark entry on Geekbench showed it running Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, but the entry is fake. Someone fabricated the benchmark using a Japanese version of the Galaxy S23 Ultra. The upcoming Samsung foldable should feature the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.
Samsung will ship the Galaxy Z Flip 6 with the latest Qualcomm chip
A few days ago, the US version of the Galaxy Z Flip 6 (model number SM-F741U) appeared on Geekbench with an impressive GPU score. The next-gen clamshell foldable scored similar to the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Much of the credit goes to the Adreno 750 GPU offered with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 For Galaxy chipset. The processor is exclusive to Samsung and powers the latest Galaxy flagships.
The CPU scores of the upcoming Samsung foldable also recently popped up on Geekbench. The device scored 1,794 in single-core tests and 4,486 in multi-core tests on Geekbench v6 and showed up with 12GB of RAM. However, something else caught our attention. The chipset powering the phone was last year’s Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 For Galaxy. Its identifier (Kalama) and CPU speeds gave it away.
This made us wonder if Samsung was developing the Galaxy Z Flip 6 with two different chipsets. There are also rumors that the company will launch a Fan Edition (FE) clamshell foldable this year. So the model with an outdated Qualcomm chip was speculated to be the FE variant. It turns out none of this is true. The new foldable doesn’t have a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 Variant.
According to SamMobile, the Geekbench entry was fabricated. The device shown in this listing is a Japanese version of the Galaxy S23 Ultra in disguise. The publication dug deeper into the listing to discover the device’s original model number SCG20. Since Japanese units don’t share the same model numbering system as the rest of the world, it was harder to notice at a glance for anyone.
The previous benchmark entry appears genuine
Following this discovery, SamMobile looked into the previous Geekbench entry for the Galaxy Z Flip 6. Thankfully, it is genuine, or at least there is no evidence of it being fabricated. More information about Samsung’s next-gen foldable should surface in the coming weeks. It is expected to debut alongside the Galaxy Z Fold 6 in July. The firm may also have a Galaxy Z Fold 6 Ultra in the works, though it may not be part of the July launch.
