Ganduje In Attendance As Yusuf Officially Joins APC

The Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has officially returned to the All Progressives Congress (APC), ending months of speculation over his political future.

The defection was formalised on Monday at the Coronation Hall, Kano Government House, where Yusuf was received by top APC leaders, including former governor and ex-APC National Chairman, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje, Deputy Senate President Barau Jibrin, and Minister of State for Housing and Urban Development, Yusuf Ata.

Also in attendance were senior APC officials, federal lawmakers, and political stakeholders from across the state.

Speaking at the event, Governor Yusuf said his return to the ruling party was driven by a desire to work more closely with the Federal Government and align Kano’s development priorities with President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

Yusuf’s defection comes on the heels of a mass exodus from the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), the platform on which he was elected governor in 2023.

In recent weeks, 22 members of the Kano State House of Assembly and eight federal lawmakers have dumped the NNPP in solidarity with the governor.

Meanwhile, the son of former Kano Governor and national leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, Mustapha Rabiu Kwankwaso, has resigned as Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development.

Naijaonpoint reports that his resignation as a member of the Kano State Executive Council under Governor Yusuf was disclosed in a statement on Monday.

The statement reads, “It is with a heavy heart that I announce my resignation as Honorable Commissioner, Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and Member of the Kano State Executive Council.

“I want to express my deepest gratitude to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for the opportunity to serve the great people of Kano State. I have cherished the experiences and lessons gained while serving, and I appreciate the trust placed in me.

“As I resign, I pray that the youth of Kano State will continue to receive the attention and support they deserve. I hope for the best for our sports development programs and initiatives, and I am confident that they will flourish in the years to come.

“May Allah (SWT) continue to shower His blessings on our beloved Kano State. I wish the government and people of Kano State all the best.”
