The spokesperson for the former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdullahi Ganduje, Edwin Olofu, has clarified that his principal has no plans to quit the ruling party.

Olofu, in an interview with Sunday Punch, dismissed reports that the former Kano State governor was preparing to join the African Democratic Congress (ADC), describing the speculation as baseless.

He said, “Ganduje is a committed member of the APC who is not just a loyal party man but also loyal to the President and his Renewed Hope Agenda. So, ignore those saying he is planning to leave the APC.”

The clarification comes barely two months after Ganduje’s abrupt resignation as APC National Chairman on June 27, 2025, citing health grounds.

Ganduje, who took over the party’s leadership on August 3, 2023, at an emergency NEC meeting, was the sixth chairman of the APC in just over a decade. His predecessors include Bisi Akande, John Odigie-Oyegun (now in ADC), Adams Oshiomhole, Mai Mala Buni, and Abdullahi Adamu.

His resignation had sparked speculations that he might lead his loyalists out of the party.

When asked if Ganduje had met President Bola Tinubu after stepping down, Olofu declined to confirm, saying only Ganduje could speak to such details.

He, however, stressed that the former chairman remained aligned with the president’s agenda.

Olofu also explained Ganduje’s recent visit to the APC National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, saying it was both personal and political.

He said, “It was first a personal one and a condolence visit. I was also there with him. When you listen, you would have heard him even saying that he supports the new chairman because there is a bond between the predecessor and the successor.”

“Ganduje is not someone who will not wish whoever succeeds him well. He doesn’t belong to that school of thought. He told Yilwatda that he is going to lend him support whenever he needs it, and the man himself was very happy,” Olofu explained.
