Gbenga Daniel refutes defection claims, reaffirms APC loyalty

Otunba Gbenga Daniel

FORMER Ogun State Governor and serving Senator, Gbenga Daniel, has dismissed reports alleging that he plans to return to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), describing the speculation as unfounded.

Daniel, who represents Ogun East Senatorial District, reiterated his loyalty to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in a statement issued by the OGD Media Office yesterday.

He stressed that he remains a committed member of the ruling party despite recent controversies.

His clarification follows his suspension, alongside Kunle Folarin, by the Ogun State chapter of the APC over alleged anti-party activities—an action that fuelled rumours of his possible defection.

“For the avoidance of doubt, Senator Gbenga Daniel is and remains a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC, a Senator, and continues to serve on the platform of the APC,” the statement read.

Daniel’s reaffirmation comes as political observers continue to watch developments within the Ogun APC closely, particularly in light of the internal disputes that have recently rocked the party.
