A United States lawmaker, Riley Moore has advised Nigeria’s president, Bola Tinubu against testing the patience of his counterpart, Donald Trump.
Moore’s advice to Tinubu comes on the heels of Trump’s recent warning and threat to invade Nigeria with troops from the US Department of War over the growing allegations of the killing of Christians in the Northern part of the country.
In an open letter addressed to Tinubu and the Nigerian Government on X on Sunday, Moore said, the US President has provided a forewarning that should not be taken lightly.
The lawmaker who represents West Virginia’s Second Congressional District also warned that the US government under the leadership of Trump has made a resolve to take steps towards addressing the alleged incessant attacks on Christians in Nigeria.
Moore wrote, “President Trump has provided forewarning if you do not correct the current state of inaction to stop the killing of our brothers and sisters in Christ in your country. The days of the US looking the other way are over – it will never happen on @POTUS’ watch.”
Urging President Tinubu to up his game and do the needful by taking actions to would curb the activities of Islamic terrorists against citizens, especially Christians in the North, Moore said, the US is focused on ensuring that Nigerians live in peace without the fear of killings by the insurgents.
He added, “I urge you to cooperate with us in preventing this atrocity that worsens every day. We want your people to live in peace – all of them, especially Christians.
“The President has been clear. I would not test his resolve. Many have tried and all have failed. We will not allow the gates of hell to prevail against the faithful,” Moore said.
Recall that Rep Moore had earlier appreciated President Trump for taking the bull by the horns in the recent designation of Nigeria as a Country of Particular Concern.
According to the lawmaker, Trump has over time shown that he is a champion for Christians around the world.
He also appreciated the opportunity to work with the US President and the chairman of the House Committee on Appropriations, Tom Cole to defend Christians who are being slaughtered by radical Islamists in Nigeria.
