Mahama’s visit comes just weeks after winning Ghana’s presidential election, marking his return to power eight years after previously leading the West African nation. Tinubu’s Special Assistant on Social Media, Olusegun Dada, confirmed the visit yesterday, sharing photos of the two leaders on his X handle. “The President-Elect of Ghana, H.E John Dramani Mahama, paid a courtesy visit to President Tinubu at his residence, Presidential Villa, State House yesterday,” Dada wrote, without providing further details about the meeting. Roughly ten days ago, Tinubu had congratulated Mahama on his electoral victory, commending the people of Ghana for holding successful elections. He emphasized the importance of learning from Ghana’s democratic process and prioritizing national unity to ensure political stability across West Africa and the African continent. Mahama, who previously served as Ghana’s president from 2012 to 2016, secured 56.55% of the votes in the 2024 elections, defeating incumbent Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia, who garnered 41.6% and has since conceded defeat.
