The Gidan Waya community in Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State has released photographs of 12 residents abducted by bandits in a deadly attack last week.
Naijaonpoint reports that the assault, which left four people dead and several others injured, has thrown the quiet community into fear and mourning.
According to community sources who spoke with Sahara Reporters, those kidnapped include a minor, six women, an ECWA Church reverend and three young men.
The victims remain in captivity, and the community has appealed for their safe and immediate release.
The abduction comes days after Amnesty International condemned the attack, describing it as another grim example of Nigeria’s inability to protect vulnerable communities.
In a statement, the global rights group revealed that the incident occurred on the night of November 11, 2025, and highlighted the continued failure of authorities to hold perpetrators accountable.
Amnesty International said, “The attack which took place in the night of yesterday, 11 November 2025, is yet another indication of the stunning failure of the Nigerian authorities to protect lives and ensure accountability for all human rights crimes.”
The organisation noted that rural communities in northern Nigeria have lived under constant threat since 2016, with bandit violence forcing many families to flee their homes.
The rights group warned of worsening attacks across the North-West and North-Central regions, including parts of Plateau, Zamfara, southern Kaduna, Benue and Katsina.
It added, “Amnesty International has been documenting the alarming escalation in attacks and abductions in several states in north west and north central Nigeria.”
