The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division and Commander Sector 1 of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu, has extended heartfelt condolences to the victims and families affected by the recent suicide bombing in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.

The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 7 Division and Commander Sector 1 of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK), Brigadier General Ugochukwu Unachukwu, has extended heartfelt condolences to the victims and families affected by the recent suicide bombing in Konduga Local Government Area of Borno State.
The tragic attack, which took place on Friday, June 20, at a busy fish market in Konduga, claimed the lives of at least 16 people and injured many others. The explosion was carried out by a female suicide bomber believed to be linked to the Boko Haram terrorist group, who infiltrated the crowded area before detonating an explosive device.
During an operational visit to 26 Task Force Brigade in Gwoza, General Unachukwu made a stop in Konduga to personally sympathize with survivors and reassure residents of the military’s continued efforts to secure the region.
“We are dedicated to defeating the enemies of peace and stability,” the GOC said. “Our troops, in collaboration with other security agencies, have already cordoned off and thoroughly scanned the affected area to prevent further attacks and restore public confidence.”
General Unachukwu described the use of suicide bombers as “the last kick of a dying horse,” stating that such desperate tactics are often a sign that insurgents are under pressure and unable to engage in sustained combat with Nigerian forces.
“These acts of terror reflect their weakness, not strength,” he said. “They cannot stand in open battle, so they resort to cowardly acts of violence against civilians. But we will not be deterred. We will continue to work with stakeholders to bring this menace to an end.”
The GOC also issued a strong warning to residents about the presence of insurgent sympathisers who may be embedded within communities, aiding attacks through surveillance, logistics, or false sympathy.
“We implore residents to be vigilant and to promptly report suspicious individuals or movements. Terrorists rely on informants and collaborators — we must break that chain.”
He praised the resilience of the people of Borno and commended their cooperation with security forces, assuring them that the military remains committed to restoring peace and normalcy across the region.
“We will get through this together, and we will emerge stronger and more resilient than ever,” he concluded.
The Nigerian Army, through the 7 Division, continues to lead operations against Boko Haram and Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) insurgents in the North East, using both kinetic and non-kinetic strategies to dismantle terror cells and protect civilian populations.
