Two years after the massive success of Godzilla Minus One, the iconic kaiju’s story is set to continue. The 2023 film proved to be an enormous box office hit, going on to gross $113 million worldwide after being made on a budget reportedly ranging between $10-15 million.

In addition to the impressive box office numbers, Godzilla Minus One‘s reviews were excellent. It earned a 99% critical score on Rotten Tomatoes, a 98% audience score, and was widely hailed as one of the best movies to ever be made in the long-running franchise.

Now, it has been announced during Godzilla Day at Tokyo’s Godzilla Fest 2025 that Minus One director Takashi Yamazaki is returning to helm Godzilla Minus Zero. As with Minus One, Yamazaki will direct, write, and provide VFX work for the new film.

Along with the title, Minus Zero‘s logo was revealed. With an aesthetic featuring bold brush strokes, it was drawn by Yamazaki, who also drew Minus One‘s logo. Check out the new logo below:

No details have been provided yet about Minus Zero‘s release date or story. However, the fitting title, Yamazaki’s return, and the involvement of Toho Studios are strong indications that this is a direct sequel to Minus One, although this has yet to be officially confirmed.

The latest news builds on a Godzilla Minus One sequel update from February. Yamazaki teased that he was writing the screenplay and working on the storyboards for a new movie about the kaiju. He expected to have a bigger budget this time around from Toho, who is also producing Minus Zero.

Seeing Toho officially building on this success is unsurprising, since Minus One is indisputably the best Godzilla movie of this decade that resonated with global audiences. It won numerous international and domestic awards, including the milestone of being the first Asian film to win the Academy Award for Best Visual Effects.

Meanwhile, Minus Zero is not the only Godzilla movie releasing in the near future. The MonsterVerse’s version of the character is also set to return in their franchise’s next film, which is titled Godzilla x Kong: Supernova, and is scheduled to be released in theaters on March 26, 2027.

For now, though, all eyes are now back on Godzilla Minus One and Godzilla Minus Zero. With the title and logo of the new project now officially revealed, it likely will not be long until story details and a release date are announced as well.
