Godzilla Minus Zero is eyeing a risky release window that’s already packed with blockbuster films as development on the sequel continues. The Godzilla Minus One sequel was announced at Godzilla Day 2025 in Tokyo, with director and VFX supervisor Takashi Yamazaki returning to develop the movie. Filming is expected to begin later this year in New Zealand and Norway.

Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Godzilla Minus Zero is aiming for a late 2026 global release window. This means the movie will come out alongside a number of major Hollywood releases next year. This includes the next Jumanji movie, which arrives on December 11, and Avengers: Doomsday and Dune: Part Three, both of which come out on December 18.

Other key releases coming in late 2026 include Greta Gerwing’s Narnia: The Magician’s Nephew, which will be released theatrically on 1,000 IMAX screens on November 26, and The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping on November 20. These blockbuster franchise movies are joined by Violent Night 2 on December 4 and Robert Eggers’ Werwulf on December 25.

Reviews for Godzilla Minus One were overwhelmingly positive, as was its global box office performance. The movie managed to make $116 million at the box office off a reported budget between $10 million to $15 million. This massive global response made it the most successful Japanese Godzilla movie, making a global release for Godzilla Minus Zero inevitable.
