The Gombe State Police Command on Saturday confirmed the death of the driver of the late Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Col. Abdullahi Bello (retd.), following a fatal accident on the Kwami–Malam Sidi–Gombe road.
The driver, whose name has not been officially released, reportedly died on Saturday, October 25, 2025, while receiving treatment for injuries sustained in the crash. The accident had earlier claimed the lives of the commissioner and his police orderly, Corporal Adamu Hussaini.
The late commissioner, his driver, and orderly were returning from Maiduguri, Borno State, where Bello had attended the North-East Regional Consultation on the Development of a National Disarmament, Demobilisation, and Reintegration (DDR) framework, when the accident occurred.
In a condolence message issued by the command’s spokesperson, DSP Buhari Abdullahi, the police described the deaths as a monumental loss to the state.
The statement read, “The Gombe State Police Command wishes to extend its heartfelt condolences to the government and people of Gombe State, as well as to the immediate families of the late Hon. Commissioner for Internal Security and Home Affairs, Col. Abdullahi Bello (retd.), his police orderly CPL. Adamu Hussaini Gamawa, and their driver who died today 25th October 2025, while receiving treatment.
“The command deeply mourns the passing of these dedicated public servants whose lives were devoted to the service and safety of the State. Their deaths are a great loss not only to their families but to the entire Gombe State and the nation at large.”
The Commissioner of Police, officers, and men of the command prayed for the repose of their souls, asking Almighty Allah to grant their families and loved ones the fortitude to bear the loss.
“May their souls rest in perfect peace,” the statement concluded.
