Google’s AI Overviews had a pretty rocky start, but the company fixed them up and shipped them out. Now, over 100 countries offer this controversial feature… Hooray. Well, it seems that Google isn’t content with just delivering AI Overviews. A new report revealed that Google may let you further expand AI Overviews that already appeared.

It’s not hard to see why AI Overviews are controversial. They could prove fatal to millions of websites across the internet, but Google doesn’t seem to mind. Other AI-powered search features from other companies aren’t any better. Thankfully, there’s a way to disable the AI Overviews in case you’re tired of seeing them.

Google could let you further expand AI Overviews

Don’t you hate when you look up a word in the dictionary, and the definition has a word in it that you then have to look up the definition of? This may have inspired this potential AI Overviews feature. It’s important to note that Google hasn’t launched this feature just yet. Thanks to Assemble Debug, we know that Google is actively working on it. As such, you’ll want to take this news with a grain of salt. Google could take this feature away at any moment before the launch.

If this feature hits the stable channel, you’ll be able to request an AI Overview of you your AI Overview. Say you get an overview when you search “AMOLED”, and it includes the term “Diode”. Well, you’ll be able to select “Diode” and summon an entire overview for that word. So, you’ll be able to expand on certain terms and phrases within the overview. From the looks of it, you’ll only be able to get a new overview from text within an overview. You won’t be able to do the same thing with text in any of the traditional search results.

Looking at the screenshot below, it looks like the secondary overview will appear in a panel at the bottom of the screen. It won’t fill the screen or replace the original overview. If you need to dismiss it, you’ll just need to slide the panel down.
