Google Photos app gets a new Updates feed on Android

Google has released a new update for the Photos app, which brings a new “Updates” feed. The new tab replaces the “Sharing” tab. As of now, the new feature is available only on Android devices. The iOS counterpart of the app hasn’t yet received the new functionality. This is the latest notable change in Google Photos since August when Google replaced the “Library” tab with a new “Collections” feed.

Earlier, the Google Photos app displayed a “Sharing” page. It was accessible from the “people” icon near your profile avatar. However, now there’s a new notification bell icon in the top-right corner between the plus button and your avatar. It is to “See recent sharing updates, including conversations and shared links”. Clicking on the bell icon now shows off a new “Updates” section.

This menu will let you access your “Sharing activity”, which includes Shared links, Shared memories, and Conversations. The Sharing Activity section shows all of the photos you’ve shared in the past on a single page. This makes it easier to keep track of what you’ve shared. It also contains all the shared links and memories in a single place.

There’s also a separate button to open the Conversations. The company is rolling out the new “Updates” feed in a gradual manner, so not everyone will get it right away.

Google Photos will soon also clearly label images with AI edits

In related news, the Google Photos app will soon get another update that will label photos created by AI. This would help identify AI-generated photos. You will be able to see when generative AI has been used in photos. It will also show when multiple images are combined into one. The app will show if an image is created or edited using AI tools like Magic Editor, Eraser, and Zoom Enhance.
