Google Photos is getting activity-based recommendations for Memories

Google is all about using its  AI prowess to make its services more accessible. Even though it’s been doing this for years, the company seems to always find more ways of doing so. According to a new report, Google Photos will bring an activity-based personalization feature for your Memories

In case you don’t know, Memories are the Google Photos equivalent of Snapchat or Instagram stories. They exist on a horizontally scrolling carousel at the top of your Google Photos home feed. When you watch them, you’ll interact with them just like Instagram or Snapchat Stories.

Google Photos Memories are automatically curated for you based on activities, dates, people, Etc. They are a way of resurfacing old content that you have forgotten about.

Google Photos is coming out with activity-based personalization for Memories.

Google uses certain criteria to curate your Memories feed, but it never really took into account your personal interactions. There are certain Memories that you are more likely to watch and others that you will ignore. Well, the company does not want to annoy you with irrelevant Memories, so it’s coming out with a feature that will analyze how you interact with your Memories. Based on your activity, if there are certain Memories that you skip, then Google will not surface memory similar to those. Vice versa, if there are Memories that you look at more often, the app will be more likely to recommend Memories like those.

One thing to note is that whatever Memories you choose to skip, Google Photos will not delete or remove those Memories or pictures from your library. It just won’t show them as Memories. Also, the activity data that Google saves will be preserved for 18 months before being deleted. This is per Google’s privacy policy.

In order to activate this feature, go to the Google Photos website and add to your Settings. You will see the Activity-based customization toggle. Simply turn it on to activate the feature to use it.
