Game of Thrones alum Kit Harington recalls an awkward kissing scene with co-star Sophie Turner. The two actors were pivotal to the game-changing success of HBO’s Game of Thrones, respectively playing Jon Snow and Sansa Stark. Although the siblings didn’t always share the screen, as they were often separated in their own corners of the sprawling story, their family reunion defines the show’s final episodes.
Since the Game of Thrones ending in May 2019, Turner and Harington have both starred in a wide variety of projects across film and television that have showcased different aspects of their strengths. They’re reuniting for the upcoming Gothic horror film The Dreadful. But as Harington tells it, he found one moment to be a little embarrassing while filming.
While promoting The Family Plan 2 in an interview with E! News, Harington reflected on working with Turner and recalled needing to stand on an apple box to kiss Sophie Turner because she’s taller, calling it “slightly embarrassing.” Also, in the quote below, the actor spoke fondly of getting to work with Turner again and how it felt to have their friendship ignited once again:
“It was slightly embarrassing, having to get on an apple box to kiss her because she’s about a foot taller than me. But other than that, my dignity was pretty intact.”
“It was a good chance to be with her again and work together. What was lovely is that we got on set together and our friendship completely ignited again. It felt like being with family. It really did.”
First reported in November 2024, The Dreadful unfolds against the backdrop of the War of the Roses. It centers on Anne (Turner) and her sinister mother-in-law, Morwen (Oscar-winning Marcia Gay Harden). They live a secluded life on the outskirts of society, which is often harsh and leaves them feeling isolated. Still, when a man (Harington) from their past returns, a series of horrifying events occur that become a turning point for Anne. The cast also includes Laurence O’Fuarain and Jonathan Howard.
The film is written and directed by Natasha Kermani, a filmmaker whose other horror credits include 2020’s Lucky. The story focuses on a popular author who finds herself as the target of a mysterious man. More recently, Kermani helmed the “TKNOGD” segment of V/H/S/85 and Abraham Boys, which starred Titus Welliver as Abraham Van Helsing. It is based on Joe Hill’s short story of the same name.
In recent years, Harington starred in thrillers and made his return to HBO with a role in Industry, while Turner is prepping for a role in Prime Video’s live-action Tomb Raider series. But in some ways, their characters in The Dreadful may be the most exciting for fans who remember their breakout roles as Jon Snow and Sansa Stark in Game of Thrones.
