Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has raised concerns over the risk of bandits entering the state from neighbouring Kwara and urged the Nigerian Army to maintain strong security operations along the border areas.
He made the call on Saturday at the Passing Out Parade of the 89 Regular Recruits Intake at the Nigerian Army Depot in Osogbo, describing the event as important to Nigeria’s overall security.
Adeleke praised the Nigerian Army for its long-standing role in protecting the country, saying its collaboration with other security agencies had been key in addressing terrorism, banditry and communal violence.
“For us as a state government, we have enjoyed a very close partnership with the Nigerian Army and the entire military establishment. From my hometown and across the state, our engagement with servicemen has continued to deliver peace and stability,” he said.
The governor noted that Osun’s reputation as one of the most peaceful states was largely due to the commitment of the military and other security personnel, adding that their efforts were deeply valued by the state government.
He confirmed that soldiers were currently deployed in border communities between Osun and neighbouring states to carry out special operations against banditry and kidnapping.
“Our dear Army Chief, your men are currently around the border towns between Osun and Kwara States conducting special operations to contain banditry and kidnapping. We are very grateful for this support,” Adeleke said.
While acknowledging the progress made so far, the governor appealed for a sustained military presence, warning that the threat of infiltration from Kwara remained real, though manageable.
Addressing the newly inducted soldiers, Adeleke urged them to uphold discipline and loyalty, reminding them of their responsibility to the nation.
“You have a duty to remain loyal to the Nigerian Army, the Constitution and the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.
