Akwa Ibom State Governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has approved a monthly allowance of ₦20,000 for all National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members of Akwa Ibom origin serving across Nigeria.

This was disclosed in a statement from the Government House in Uyo on Tuesday, following the State Executive Council meeting held on Monday.

The new allowance scheme, which takes effect from August 1, 2025, comes shortly after the governor also raised the stipend for NYSC members serving within Akwa Ibom from ₦5,000 to ₦20,000.

Governor Eno explained that the move is a direct expression of his administration’s Renewed Hope – ARISE Youth Support Initiative, aimed at alleviating financial burdens and enhancing the overall welfare of young people.

“This decision aligns with the Renewed Hope, ARISE Youth Support Initiative. It is intended to cushion living expenses and promote the well-being of corps members,” the statement read.

It further added that the grant is subject to periodic review, depending on economic realities and other prevailing circumstances.

In a broader push to enhance the service year experience of corps members, the governor also approved the reconstruction of the NYSC Orientation Camp in Ikot Itie Idung, Nsit Atai Local Government Area.

The state government emphasised that the gesture reflects the governor’s inclusive and compassionate leadership style, and is part of a strategic plan to support youth development and nation-building.

“Corps members have continued to play key roles in education, healthcare, agriculture, and rural development. Their welfare is central to the growth of these sectors,” the government said.

The statement further noted that Akwa Ibom remains one of the safest and most accommodating states for NYSC members, with the administration committed to sustaining an enabling environment for their service.
