The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has appointed suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, as a member of its 2025 National Convention Organising Committee.

Fubara, who was suspended on March 18, 2025, under an emergency rule declared by President Bola Tinubu, is still under suspension until September 17, 2025.

Despite this, his name appeared on the list of members appointed to prepare for the upcoming national convention. The PDP announced that Adamawa State Governor, Ahmadu Fintiri, will serve as chairman of the 1,100-member committee, while Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, will act as deputy chairman.

Enugu State Governor, Peter Mbah, was chosen as secretary.

The party explained that the formation of the committee followed resolutions taken at its last National Executive Committee meeting.

The elective national convention is scheduled to take place in Ibadan, Oyo State, from November 15 to 16, 2025.

Other members include former Vice President Namadi Sambo, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, Bayelsa State Governor Douye Diri, Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed, Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, PDP acting national chairman Umar Damagum, and PDP Board of Trustees chairman Adolphus Wabara, among others.

Last week, the PDP also set up a 44-member zoning committee led by Governor Douye Diri with Zamfara State Governor Dauda Lawal as his deputy.

That committee is expected to recommend how key positions, including the national chairmanship, will be zoned between the North and the South.

In line with the party’s rotation system, if the chairmanship is given to the North, the presidential candidate will come from the South, and if the chairmanship goes South, the presidential ticket will be zoned to the North.
