Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved the conversion of 654 officers across various cadres in the Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the state, in a move described as a major boost to workers’ morale and career progression.
Naijaonpoint reports that the approval was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade, and made available to journalists in Ibadan.
According to the Chairman of the Oyo State Civil Service Commission, Kamoru Aderibigbe, the beneficiaries are officers in sub-officer cadres, spanning both junior and senior levels of the civil service.
Aderibigbe explained that the affected officers qualified for the conversion after improving their academic and professional standing.
He noted that they had enhanced their qualifications by acquiring relevant and approved courses from recognised tertiary institutions across the country.
The Civil Service Commission chairman said the approval would translate to better welfare and clearer career prospects for the affected workers.
“The approval would not only lead to improved remuneration for the affected officers, but will also provide them with the opportunity of attaining the peak of their careers within the civil service,” Aderibigbe said.
Aderibigbe urged the beneficiaries to see the governor’s approval as a special privilege that should be matched with renewed commitment to duty.
He advised them to reciprocate the gesture with increased dedication, diligence and a stronger sense of responsibility in the discharge of their official duties.
The commission chairman also expressed appreciation to Governor Makinde, describing the decision as an unprecedented end-of-year goodwill gesture to workers in the state.
He said the move once again underscored the Makinde administration’s commitment to workers’ welfare and the professional development of the Oyo State civil service.
