The governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo has described the judgment of the Appeal Court which upheld his election as governor as a victory for democracy.
Okpebholo also urged the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Asue Ighodalo to accept the decision of the court over his emergence as the governor of Edo State.
In a statement issued on Thursday shortly after the Appeal Court dismissed Ighodalo’s suit challenging Okpebholo’s victory as governor, Fred Itua, the spokesperson to the governor said the court affirmed the will of Edo people.
Itua said the court’s decision should be a sign for the Igbodalo, the PDP and other political actors that the will of the people must always prevail.
According to Itua, the governor also views the prolonged litigation as a distraction to his committment towards fulfilling the urgent needs of the people of Edo.
“The governor has consistently extended an olive branch to all, irrespective of political leanings, emphasising that the development of our dear state remains paramount. He reiterates this call.
“The administration of Governor Okpebholo urges all well-meaning citizens to remain calm and continue with their lawful activities,” Itua said.
He further assured the people that his government will continue to deliver on its mandate and serve Edo residents in their best interest.
