The Julius Abure-led faction of the Labour Party has declared the party’s National Executive Council, NEC meeting, convened by Abia State Governor Alex Otti, as null and void.
A statement issued on Friday by the factional National Secretary of the party, Umar Farouk Ibrahim, described the meeting as illegal, asserting that Governor Otti now stands isolated.
The faction advised Governor Otti to channel Abia State’s resources towards the development of the state rather than on what it termed “trivialities.”
DAILY POST had earlier reported that the Labour Party’s NEC held a meeting during which Senator Usman Nenadi was elected Interim National Chairman, and Senator Darlington Nwokocha as Interim National Secretary, alongside other members of the party’s interim working committee.
The faction stated that the governor and his associates must by now realise that the party’s train has moved on, adding that the Labour Party is focused on the 2027 general election, with or without them.
The statement further claimed that Otti is perhaps unaware that his political support has dwindled, as most of his allies and leaders have abandoned him.
“The attention of the leadership of the Labour Party has been drawn to yet another illegal gathering of some suspended members of the party parading themselves as members of the party’s National Executive Committee.
“Ordinarily, we didn’t think we should make any comment as regards to this perennial jamboree since the meeting and its outcome is inconsequential, null and void,” the statement said.
