Gov Yusuf Directs Immediate Dissolution Of Kano LG Caretaker Committees

Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, has dissolved the caretaker chairmen of all 44 local government areas in the state with immediate effect.

The announcement was conveyed by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Bature, in a statement on Wednesday.

This decision follows a recent extension approved by the state House of Assembly, which had initially extended the tenure of the caretaker committees by two months beyond the original expiry date of September 8.

The extension aimed to maintain continuity in local governance until the upcoming local government elections scheduled for October 26.

Governor Yusuf has instructed the caretaker chairmen to transfer their responsibilities to the Directors of Personnel Management in their respective areas. This dissolution also affects vice chairmen, secretaries, and councillors.

“This dissolution applies to all chairmen, vice chairmen, secretaries, and councillors,” Yusuf stated.

In his statement, Governor Yusuf thanked the outgoing caretaker chairmen for their contributions to local development and indicated a possibility for future collaboration.

The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC), has reduced the price of nomination forms for the state’s local government elections.

The Chairman of KANSIEC, Sani Malumfashi, disclosed this on Friday, September 23, in Kano while speaking with journalists.

Naijaonpoint reported that KANSIEC had initially put the nomination forms for chairmanship and councillorship positions at ₦10 million and ₦5 million, respectively.

A former Digital Media Adviser to former President Muhammadu Buhari, Bashir Ahmed, in reaction, stated that the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidates cannot afford the price.

The high rate also led the opposition parties to go to court and obtain an order restraining KANSIEC from implementing the price.
