Gov Yusuf Empowers Kano Women With Red Goats

Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf has allocated 7,158 red goats to 2,386 women across the state as a form of empowerment.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the governor’s spokesperson, Sanusi Dawakin-Tofa, announced that this distribution signifies the commencement of the second phase of the women empowerment initiative under the Livestock Fattening Programme, part of the Kano Agro-Pastoral Development Project.

Dawakin-Tofa highlighted that the initiative, which has a budget of ₦2.3 billion, is designed to alleviate poverty and enhance economic self-sufficiency.

He noted that the program encompasses the provision of livestock to women in all 44 local government areas of Kano.

Each participant received three goats to aid their ventures in livestock entrepreneurship.

The governor reiterated his administration’s dedication to combating poverty through innovative and inclusive strategies.

The spokesperson also mentioned that future phases of the program will include the distribution of 1,342 cows and 1,822 rams to women and youth.

Governor Yusuf emphasized that this initiative is a key component of his administration’s broader strategy to empower vulnerable populations and promote economic independence among women and youth in the state.

“He warned the beneficiaries against using the livestock for other purposes, stressing the need for accountability and responsibility in the programme,” the statement noted.

Dawakin-Tofa said the initiative “Reflected the administration’s focus on sustainable development and empowering communities to stimulate grassroots economic growth.

“By integrating women and youth into the agricultural value chain, the programme aims to enhance household income and reduce dependency on government aid.

“The initiative has been widely praised as a significant effort to improve livelihoods, strengthen food security, and create wealth in Kano’s rural communities.”
