Fresh concerns over insecurity in parts of Kano State dominated discussions on Wednesday as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf met President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

According to a statement by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Yusuf’s meeting with President Tinubu focused on security, major infrastructure projects, and strengthening cooperation between Kano State and the Federal Government.
During the meeting, Governor Yusuf reportedly briefed the President on the worsening security situation in some local government areas, stressing the need for urgent federal intervention.
He highlighted the impact of insecurity on residents, particularly the most vulnerable, and called for increased support to strengthen security operations and prevent further loss of innocent lives.
The governor also explained the role of the Kano State Neighbourhood Watch Corps in complementing conventional security agencies, while urging deeper collaboration with federal security institutions to improve intelligence sharing and response.
Beyond security, Yusuf used the meeting to outline his administration’s development priorities, with emphasis on large-scale infrastructure projects aimed at driving economic growth.
“Governor Yusuf also discussed Kano’s development agenda, with special focus on mega infrastructure projects. He used the opportunity to thank the President about federal intervention on the Wujuwuju Road, describing it as critical step to unlocking economic growth and job creation,” the statement read.
The governor further appealed for the President’s support in accelerating ongoing federal projects in Kano, noting that timely completion would enhance the state’s capacity to attract investments and create employment opportunities.
Yusuf also urged the Federal Government to ensure Kano fully benefits from national programmes and investments, stressing that closer collaboration would help address longstanding development gaps in the state.
He noted that coordinated efforts between both levels of government were necessary to tackle security challenges while delivering sustainable development to residents.
President Tinubu, according to the statement, assured the governor of the Federal Government’s commitment to working closely with Kano State.
He pledged continued support to address insecurity and promote development initiatives that would improve the welfare of the people and ensure long-term stability in the state.
