A Senior Special Reporter to Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, at the Ministry of History and Culture, Sadiq Gentle, has died from injuries sustained during a violent attack by suspected hoodlums.
Naijaonpoint learnt that the journalist passed away on Thursday morning at the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, days after the gruesome machete attack in his home.
Confirming the tragic incident to Daily Post, a close associate of the deceased, Mujtaba Muhammad Auwal, said Sadiq had been fighting for his life since the attack but succumbed to his injuries before a scheduled surgery.
Mujtaba said tearfully, “It’s true, he has passed away. His condition worsened yesterday, and another surgery was scheduled for today, but Allah did not will it.
“Some thugs broke into his house on Sunday night. They stabbed him and stole his phones.”
The killing of Sadiq Gentle has triggered an outpouring of grief and renewed public outrage over the rising cases of deadly phone snatching in Kano.
The journalist’s death comes just days after a Bayero University student was also stabbed to death by phone snatchers in Dorayi, under Gwale Local Government Area.
Despite multiple crackdowns by security agencies, phone theft-related assaults remain prevalent in the city.
As of the time of filing this report, no official statement has been issued by the Kano State Government or the Kano State Police Command regarding the incident.
