THE Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF) has thrown its full support behind a proposed bill that aims to reserve legislative seats exclusively for women at both the federal and state levels.
In a statement released early today following their meeting, the governors encouraged members to engage actively with lawmakers to ensure the passage of the bill, which seeks to amend the 1999 Constitution.
The proposed legislation would create special constituencies in the National and State Assemblies, open only to female candidates, as a temporary measure to strengthen women’s political representation across the country.
The forum described the initiative as a crucial step toward gender inclusion and equitable governance, reaffirming its commitment to promoting women’s active participation in national decision-making.
Beyond gender representation, the governors also expressed support for the Federal Government’s ongoing fiscal reforms.
They particularly commended the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) for its policies aimed at stabilizing the economy and pledged to work closely with federal authorities to sustain these efforts.
On national security, the NGF reiterated its commitment to addressing emerging threats across the country.
The governors vowed to intensify collaboration with the Department of State Services (DSS) and other security agencies to improve intelligence sharing and enhance internal security.
