The Government of Jigawa State has declared Wednesday, August 27, 2025, as a work-free day in celebration of the state’s 34th anniversary.
Naijaonpoint reports that Jigawa, which was created on August 27, 1991, was carved out of the old Kano State during the state creation exercise that also gave birth to Yobe, Enugu, Bauchi, and Kogi States.
In a statement issued by the State Head of Service, Muhammad Dagaceri, the Governor Umar Namadi’s government congratulated the people of Jigawa on the milestone and urged residents to participate fully in festivities scheduled across the state.
“The declaration aims to allow people to properly participate in the anniversary events and communal prayers without work distractions,” the statement read.
Dagaceri encouraged residents to use the public holiday to reflect on the state’s progress and to offer prayers for both Jigawa and Nigeria.
“The day off is meant for public servants and residents to reflect and give thanks to Almighty Allah for the state’s blessings and peaceful coexistence,” the statement added.
He further urged the people to appreciate the strides Jigawa has made since its creation and to commit to working together for a brighter future.
The government emphasised the significance of unity, community spirit, and continued development as Jigawa moves into its 35th year.
“This move reflects the state’s commitment to honouring its unique history and promoting community spirit among its people,” Dagaceri stated.
Celebratory activities, including cultural displays, communal prayers, and other state-wide events, have been lined up to mark the anniversary.
