While Grand Theft Auto 6 is still not set to release until 2026 and very few details about the game’s story have been released, fans have been speculating over who is and isn’t going to be working on the project. At LA Comic Con today, Rockstar co-founder Dan Houser gave an official update regarding the game’s story.

According to his statements at LA Comic Con earlier today (per GTA 6 Countdown on X) Dan Houser has officially confirmed that he is not working on the story for GTA 6.

He has previously worked on development for nearly every GTA mainline game’s story, and while it isn’t a complete surprise Houser isn’t writing on GTA 6, fans will appreciate official confirmation.

At LA Comic Con today, Dan Houser answered a series of questions, one of them being about his involvement in GTA 6. Houser said that, “It’s not gonna be a story I wrote or a character set I developed,” confirming that he has no involvement in the story for the next entry in the blockbuster franchise.

This shouldn’t come as a massive shock to fans of the franchise considering his departure from Rockstar in 2020, though there were reportedly versions of his script that were repeatedly rejected, which was rumored to be the cause of his retirement from Rockstar.

Many fans are concerned that Dan Houser’s absence from GTA 6 story development will be a massive problem for the game, and will result in a lackluster or disappointing narrative. However, Houser seems optimistic about the project despite his non-involvement, stating “It will be exciting. It will be great.”

Rumors Can Finally Be Put To Rest Over Houser’s GTA 6 Involvement

Fans have been speculating for a while now about Dan Houser’s involvement in the upcoming Grand Theft Auto 6 story development. While he was a writer for nearly every mainline GTA game in the past, he parted ways with Rockstar over uncertainty regarding the future of the franchise, among other reasons.

Because Houser worked on GTA 6 scripts, fans have speculated that his story and/or characters would make their way into the finished product despite his departure from Rockstar. However, it doesn’t seem there’s any credibility to those rumors, and Houser seems pretty confident in stating that the world has seen enough of his involvement in the GTA series’ story development.

Ultimately, while it may be a disappointment to some fans that Houser officially did not write Grand Theft Auto 6 or have any involvement in its story development, it’s good to be able to put some rumors to rest and give fans a bit of closure.
