PEP Guardiola is holding on to hope of his Manchester City side winning the English Premier League title ahead of leaders Arsenal, even with the Gunners seven points ahead.
Although Guardiola admits he is up against the world’s current most in-form football team at the moment, he believes City still have a shot at the title.
“Arsenal are the best team right now in the world,” Guardiola said of the Premier League and UEFA Champions League leaders today, ahead of tomorrow’s Premier League fixture against bottom side Wolves.
“Look in the Champions League, Premier League, FA Cup, and Carabao Cup. Hopefully, we can be close and hope they give us one chance to get them.”
City are in dismal form at the moment, failing to win any of their last five matches in the Premier League and Champions, including last Saturday’s 2-0 defeat to Manchester United and Tuesday’s shock 3-1 loss at Bodo/Glimt.
The winless run has coincided with the return of Rodri from a long lay-off, and Guardiola is confident that both the club and the Ballon d’Or winner will be back to their best soon.
“I know the reason why we are struggling now. I know 100%. It’s been 11 months,” the Spaniard said
“Give him (Rodri) more time. Our standards are so high and I know the reason why we are a little bit inconsistent.”
Marc Guehi completed a £20m move to Manchester City from Crystal Palace last week and Guardiola confirmed that the England centre-back will.make his debut against Wolves.
“Yes, yes, he will. Really good [signing] considering he is a central defender. Really good,” he said.
“He is a player for the national team and was a captain last season. I have a feeling yes, but the fragility is not just about one player. I know the solution and it’s not about one player.
“We cannot lose games. Man City is so perfect that we cannot lose games. It is what it is. We have to change the dynamic to try to win games tomorrow and Wednesday.”
