A gunman has shot four people dead before killing himself in a case of mass shooting at a birthday party in Kentucky, United States.

The incident reported occurred around 3.00am on Saturday.

The gunman, 21-year-old Chase Garvey, also shot three people who were seriously wounded.

WLWT5 reports Florence police as saying that officers responded to a home on Ridgecrest Drive in Florence, Kentucky, at 2:51 a.m. early Saturday morning after receiving several calls for reports of an active shooter inside the residence.

The online portal said when the police arrived on-scene at the home, officers said they found seven people suffering from gunshot wounds, four of which were pronounced dead on the scene.

Police said that a birthday party was currently going on at the residence of Melissa Parrett, 44, who was throwing the party for her 21-year-old son.

Parrett was identified as one of the victims who was killed in the shooting.

The other victims have been identified as Shane Miller, 20, Hayden Rybicki, 20, and Delaney Eary, 19.

The other three victims were transported to University of Cincinnati Medical Center. Their conditions are currently listed as critical but stable, WLWT5 reports.

According to Independent, Police said that the male suspected gunman fled the scene of the shooting by car, leading officers on a chase.

The short chase ended when the suspected gunman drove his vehicle into a ditch.

When officers approached the vehicle, they found the suspect suffering from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head, police said.

He was pronounced dead in a hospital where he was rushed to.
