Tension has gripped Ogbe and neighbouring communities in Kogi State following a fresh bandit attack along the Ogbe–Egbe road, where five travellers were reportedly abducted on Friday.
According to reports, the victims were travelling from Ogbe to Egbe to attend the wedding ceremony of an Ogbe indigene resident in Egbe when they were ambushed by armed assailants.
The attack occurred around the boundary area between Ogbe and Koro, where the gunmen suddenly blocked the road and opened fire.
One of the travellers was reportedly shot during the incident and rushed to an undisclosed hospital for urgent medical treatment, while five others were forcibly taken away into the bush by the attackers.
The incident has renewed fears among residents, who say insecurity along rural roads in the area has become persistent and alarming.
Community members have called on security agencies and relevant authorities to urgently step up patrols and surveillance along the Ogbe–Egbe axis to prevent further attacks and ensure the safety of travellers.
