Gunmen have attacked the residence of former Minister of Sports, Mr. Damishi Sango, in Dalwal village, Riyom Local Government Area of Plateau State, resulting in the death of a female relative and serious injuries to his police escort.
The attack occurred on July 2, 2025, at about 10:46 p.m., when the assailants stormed the compound and opened fire. During the attack, Inspector Walba Go Tom, a police officer from the Special Protection Unit Base 4, Makurdi, attached to the former minister, sustained gunshot wounds, and his service rifle was reportedly taken by the attackers.
A female relative of the former minister, who was also hit by gunfire, later died while receiving treatment at Plateau Specialists Hospital in Jos. The injured police officer is currently hospitalized and responding to treatment.
According to community sources, the attackers fled the scene before help could arrive. The incident adds to the security challenges facing Plateau State, as residents continue to call for strengthened protection in rural communities.
Security agencies have yet to issue an official statement on the incident at the time of filing this report.
