Despite assurances of increased security surveillance and patrol around Diobu community in Rivers state, the condition of the area is still very tense, following renewed clashes believed to be from cultists and gang groups operating and terrorizing the community.
According to seasoned crime Reporter, John Amawoh gathered that some gang around Akwuzu street at the Mille 1 axis of Diobu, yesterday, invaded a birthday party, after patiently and calculating the guest movements, before robbing guests and those around the venue; including neighbors of their phones and other belongings before escaping through the waterfront.
We learnt a police officer equally lost his life same yesterday within the Elechi waterfront,after a combative operation against renewed gang war and killings that have held residents of the area in captivity, even though the police is silent on the death.
Recalled that over the weekend, several persons have fallen victim of stray bullet shots from the hands of the criminals and cultists, including hired assassins’ that have unleashed terror in the area.
At Etche street, a man believed to be a taxi driver equally lost his life ; and a middle aged woman also died from a gunshot injuries suspected to also be a stray bullet from the hand of the bloody tasty elements.
Some residents who spoke to the National Forerunner, on condition anonymity,said the current state of emergency in the state seems not to help ,as gangs continued to hold sway into the state, especially the Diobu axis captive with sustained fear, and panic on daily.
Although, investigations carried out by this publication, linked the violent and criminals activities to politicians who usually help in releasing them (culties) after detention from police custody.
Just few hours ago, a young man was said to had been released back to the community
The state police command is yet to make any comment on the above incident
