Gunmen Kill Two Security Guards In Imo LG Secretariat

Tragedy struck in Imo State on Tuesday night as gunmen launched a deadly attack on the Isiala-Mbano Local Government Area’s headquarters, leaving two vigilante members dead and causing significant property damage.

According to eyewitness accounts, the attackers stormed the secretariat around 8:30 PM, unleashing sporadic gunfire.

The two vigilantes, who were guarding the council’s headquarters, tragically lost their lives during the attack.

Following the shootings, the assailants set several cars parked at the council premises on fire, causing chaos and destruction.

Parts of the council building were also reportedly set ablaze in the aftermath.

The motive behind the attack remains unclear, and no group has claimed responsibility as of the time of reporting.

An eyewitness who spoke with Punch on the incident said, “Two security men at Isiala-Mbano council headquarters have been shot dead. The hoodlums also set ablaze a larger portion of the council building and several vehicles parked in the premises. Many others escaped with various degrees of injuries.

“There is palpable fear in Umuelemai, the LG headquarters because people, as I speak, have fled to neighbouring villages.”

The state police command’s spokesman, Henry Okoye, said, “The command has deployed tactical teams to apprehend those responsible for this crime.”
