Various online sources have reported that at least seven students of the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, located in the Orumba North local government area of Anambra State, were shot Thursday, June 19, 2025, by unidentified gunmen. Four casualties have been reported, while the remaining students are in critical condition at local hospitals.
Additionally, it has been reported that some other persons may have been kidnapped during the attack, although a student of the polytechnic has denied this in a Facebook post.
A viral video showed two of the victims—a male and a female student—lying in a pool of their own blood and gasping for breath in what is believed to be a hospital.
The Anambra State Police Command is yet to issue any statement regarding the incident.
Reacting to a post regarding the incident on social media, a Facebook user whose name was not included for security reasons said “UGM came around Victoria point garden oko to attack this night, few students where injured including some of the lecturers that was kidnapped too!
It was a terrible incident.
We thank God for our lives!”
