Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) President, Ibrahim Musa Gusau, has assured Nigerians that the Super Eagles are fully focused and motivated ahead of next month’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying play-offs, Soccernet.ng reports.

Earlier, the Super Eagles faced a difficult road to revive their 2026 World Cup hopes, but an unbeaten run and two crucial victories helped Nigeria secure a place in the play-offs, where they will now battle Gabon.

The three-time African champions will face Gabon in a semi-final tie in Rabat, Morocco, as they look to secure a route to the inter-continental play-off and eventually book a ticket to the United States, Mexico, and Canada.

Speaking on the team’s preparations, Gusau said the federation remains optimistic and is working closely with the government to ensure the squad receives every necessary support before the decisive fixtures.

“We are highly excited because our hope has been rekindled. The key thing is that we are going for the playoffs next month, and by the grace of God, we will take it from there.

I want to assure Nigerians that we are very much ready for that.

We are doing everything possible with the government, through the National Sports Commission, to ensure that all that is needed to prepare the team properly is provided. Let’s go and see how it will work.” he said, as captured by OGTV.

How Nigeria booked 2026 World Cup playoffs

Nigeria booked their place in the playoffs after finishing second in Group C behind South Africa, sealing qualification with a resounding 4-0 win over Benin on the final matchday.

Victor Osimhen’s hat-trick and Frank Onyeka’s strike ensured the Super Eagles edged Benin on goal difference to clinch one of the four best runners-up slots.
