Super Eagles full-back Bright Osayi-Samuel has opened up about his experience under Jose Mourinho, describing the iconic coach as both a father figure and a demanding mentor, Soccernet.ng reports.

Mourinho, widely regarded as one of football’s most successful managers, took over at Fenerbahce this summer, aiming to end Galatasaray’s dominance in the Turkish Super Lig.

Osayi-Samuel, who has been at Fenerbahce since 2021, has quickly become one of Mourinho’s trusted players, thanks to his relentless work ethic and consistency.

Reflecting on their bond, Osayi-Samuel told Brila.net,

“He’s like a father figure. But if you get on his wrong side, he can be your biggest enemy. Overall, though, I love him so much.

“He’s done so much for me so far, and he’s the best manager I’ve ever had, and I have had him for less than six months.”

The 25-year-old full-back has made 11 appearances this season, including a strong showing in the Europa League against Manchester United.

Under the watch of the former Chelsea and Man United boss, Fenerbahce have thrived this season, soaring to second on the league table behind champions Galatasaray.

Grateful for Mourinho’s influence, Osayi-Samuel added, “I just want to keep learning as much as possible under him and improve as a player.”

The Nigerian international debuted for the Super Eagles in November 2022 and earned his 18th cap in their recent 1-1 draw against Benin.

With Ola Aina returning to England, Osayi-Samuel is expected to start in Monday’s clash against Rwanda.

Nigeria, already qualified for the 2025 AFCON, will hope to go one better than their silver-medal finish in 2023, where Osayi-Samuel was a key squad member.
