Former All Progressives Congress (APC) national chairman and senator representing Edo North, Adams Oshiomhole, has said former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar, lacks the competence to lead Nigeria, arguing that his failure to stabilise the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) proves he cannot manage a complex nation.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, Oshiomhole questioned Atiku’s leadership credentials, insisting that the former PDP presidential candidate had been unable to organise or strengthen the party where he once served as vice president.
He said, “If Atiku, as a former vice president under PDP, could not fix PDP, he could not reconstruct it, he could not provide leadership and use his influence which he had built, how can you lay claim to fix Nigeria?”
His comments came shortly after Atiku officially joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), ending months of speculation about his political future.
Atiku confirmed his defection in a post on 𝕏, sharing a photo of himself lifting his ADC membership card with the caption, “It’s official.”
Oshiomhole also revisited Atiku’s earlier exit from the APC, accusing him of dumping the ruling party purely because he failed to clinch the presidential ticket.
He said, “He was once a member of the APC. He left because he lost the party’s presidential ticket.”
The Edo North senator dismissed Atiku’s new political alignment as another attempt to reposition himself for the 2027 elections, insisting that the former vice president’s track record disqualifies him from leadership claims.
He added, “He went back to the PDP. He’s so much in love with the PDP, at least for the purpose of contesting the election. He could not build PDP. So, if Atiku can’t build the PDP that made him Vice President, he can’t fix Nigeria.”
Atiku resigned from the PDP in July following prolonged internal disagreements and accusations that the party had abandoned its founding ideals.
